Chiropractor Develops Comfortable "Show Chair"
   In August of 2000, Dr. Jerry Zelm attended an art fair in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. As he observed the various exhibits, he couldn't help but notice the chairs the artists were sitting on. "Most of the chairs offered little or no support, and the ergonomics were terrible." Dr. Zelm's thirty-year background in Chiropractic led him to do a little survey. "Almost all of the artists I interviewed admitted that these chairs were very uncomfortable." When Zelm mentioned the possibility of developing a more comfortable chair, they were quick to offer him their business cards.

Some time later, Zelm commissioned a design engineer to help him with the project. After three years of work, and many design modifications, the Back 2 Health® Show Chair became a reality.

Three years later, Zelm took the prototype back to the same group of artists who initially encouraged him. After demonstrating the chair to about twenty of them, and getting their positive input, he set about making some final refinements.

Zelm's goal was to have the chair ready for market by February, 2004. "It's been a lot of work. But the fun will be hearing the comments as the artists experience a chair that is both comfortable and healthy for their back."

Here are some questions and answers about this exciting new product:

Why do you think this chair is needed?
   Artists often travel hundreds of miles to participate in weekend art and craft fairs. Most of the day is then spent sitting as they market their craft. This sedentary life style contributes to chronic back and related health problems, especially if they sit on chairs that do not provide adequate support.

How is the Back 2 Health® Show Chair different from the others on the market?
   Most of the other chairs do not take the natural curves of the spine into consideration, especially the lumbar spine. This is critical since the lumbar spine forms the foundation for the rest of the back. The Back 2 Health® Show Chair provides both horizontal and vertical support to the entire back at angles that are very comfortable, even with prolonged sitting. It has an open pocket which is handy for magazines, cell phones, etc. Another popular product is our red oak work station that comes with a built in beverage holder.
